About Friends of Retired Greyhounds
Friends of Retired Greyhounds is a 501c3 non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to cooperating with kennel operators and other adoption groups to place retired greyhounds in responsible, loving homes. Our organization works with veterinarians to insure that dogs adopted from FOR greyhounds are vaccinated, and in general good health before placing them in homes. In addition to this, we educate individuals and groups about greyhounds, their history, their lives as racing dogs, and our adoption program.
How long has FORG been around? FORG has been around for about ten years. The organization was started by a couple to find forever homes for retired greyhounds.
What is our mission? We strive to find loving forever homes for retired Greyhounds and to work to educate the public about the breed as well as the life that the greyhounds live as "professional athletes." Our kennels are very loving and thoughtful to their dogs and we work hard to undo some of the unpopular beliefs about the racing kennels
How do we get our Greyhounds? FORG works with many race Kennels across the U.S. to obtain as many retired racers as we can. FORG also accepts greyhounds from the show circuit and shelters.
How does FORG help the Greyhounds? The greyhounds are put through a very thorough medical check including: spay/neuter, dental cleaning, full shots, heartworm test, fecal test, microchipping, and a full physical. Once they are medically cleared, they either go to private foster homes or the Cell Dog program.
