  About FORG Fostering

Have you thought about "trying out" a greyhound but don't want to commit to full ownership? Fostering could be for you. Or perhaps you would like occasional company for your own grey or other pets, but can't afford to own another right now? Well, consider fostering!

Friends of Retired Greyhounds is always in need of compassionate foster families to help our greyhounds get used to a life of full retirement. A greyhound comes from a track kennel with no knowledge of a normal pet's life: slick floors, stairs, windows and glass doors, are all a mystery. Patient foster parents help a grey transition into the outside world and become a good prospective pet. The foster parent is one of the most important people in the greyhound's road to a forever home and happy life.

WE PROVIDE The greyhound of your choice. We have many to choose from!

Martingale(greyhound) Collar and Lead.
Dog Food.
Medical expenses, as needed.

Training and support for you as you require. We provide a manual of information for you, and will help with dog training when needed. You will always be able to contact us for help and advice with your foster.

YOU PROVIDE Social training.

House training.
Love and attention.
Treats, toys and beds.

Showing your dog off at events; we would like you to get out to Meet and Greets and other events when you can, to show potential adopters your foster.

Fostering is a commitment. It requires patience, consistency, and willingness to learn as your foster adjusts to life in the real world outside of racing. Your foster is with you from a few weeks, to as much as several months. During this time you must help the greyhound know the outside world, get used to a house and life with other pets and perhaps kids, televisions, stereos, kitchen counters (uh-oh!), automobile rides, and many other things. Many greyhounds learn to play with toys for the first time in the foster home!

But it can be a tremendously rewarding experience to watch a dog grow and change as it learns. You see the real personality bloom! Fostering is one of the most important elements in forming the greyhound's hopeful future. Foster parents really matter, and really make a big difference!
